You Should See the Other Guy

We've had our fair share of injuries/ailments around here lately.

It's safe to say that our pediatrician is on speed dial. It all started a few weeks ago when Austin touched a burning glass fireplace- with both hands. The only way I could get his to stop screaming was to sit him in my lap and hold his hands in a bowl of cold water. He almost fell asleep like this!

The next week, Owen was diagnosed with croup, which he recovered remarkably quickly from, thank goodness.

Last week, sometime during ~~nap time~~ rest time Owen got gnarly rug burn in his forehead and nose. According to his enthusiastic reenactment, he fell off his dresser (!!!). It's healing quite nicely, the mark almost gone. It looked a lot worse than this picture around day 3. We mostly kept it bandaged during the day do he wouldn't scare the masses.

Somehow, through all of this, we have managed to stay out of the ER. I'm so grateful that God continues to protect my little ones, especially when I can't! But I wouldn't mind a break from the owies :)

It was such a gorgeous day today! Finally, the temps went down enough for it to feel like fall!

I had my screen door open this morning. It was glorious.

We had our standing playdate with Ruth, baby Joel and Luke. The boys are such good friends and play so well together. Love.

I also love sitting out on the patio enjoying the cool weather while the boys run around! And you can't beat good company (and good music on Ruth's phone).

Austin and Joel are hitting it off big time. Austy is so sweet with him. Here he was tickling Joel's feet and giggling!

The weather surprised me in the afternoon - we got a thunderstorm!

Took the boys to Target after naps. Of course we have to stop by the toy displays. Owen loves these. Austin's not so sure.

Picked up a few little treats in the dollar section. A glittery pumpkin (how could I pass that up?) and glow necklaces.

Which kept the boys occupied for approximately 2.4 minutes while I was cooking dinner.

Man, what I wouldn't give for a pool in our backyard! In lieu of pool fun, I've been trying to keep these boys busy with other activities.

That's what the boys have been up to. I've had some fun too! Last week I met up with my grandma, Aunt Debbie, and cousin Janae for lunch and Cracker Barrel. We had so much fun, it was hard to leave!

Ruth and I got a girls night out last weekend. We talked at Starbucks for a bit, then headed to the movies to see Crazy, Stupid Love. Cute movie!

I'm ready for the summer to be over. I feel like I come alive in the fall - I love cooking soups and casseroles, having people over when it's nice and cool outside, doing fun outdoor things with the kids, wearing boots and scarves, lighting pumpkin candles. Get here soon, Fall!

Owen's First Movie!

While Ryan and Austin were out of town, I took Owen to his first movie. It was opening day of Cars 2!

I made a big deal about it in the days leading up to it. We talked about going to the movies, and Owen seemed really excited.

The day of the movie, we stopped into Target and I let Owen pick out his own treat. He picked Skittles.

Then we headed to Chick fil A to pick up a quick breakfast. Didn't want to do our first movie on empty tummies!

We sat in front of the theatre and ate our breakfast while we waited to our friends (and cousins!).

Because it was opening day, we got there pretty early to get good seats. There was a group of 7 of us, and even though we had hoped to sit together, we had to break up into 2 groups. Wouldn't you know that we ended up sitting at almost the top of the theatre, right smack dab in the middle of the row. That would come back to bite me later.

Owen did great for the 45 minutes before the movie actually started. He sat still through the previews and the short Toy Story skit. But by the time Cars actually started, Owen was getting bored. He was trying to talk loudly to Rylee and he wanted to get out of his chair and walk around.

10 minutes into the movie, he was just being too loud, so I took him our of the theatre. We just played in the lobby for a good part of the movie.

The we returned during the last 15 minutes or so and he did great. Guess he had gotten all of his wigglies out!

So, I'm thinking he's still a bit young for the full movie experience. But it was still fun!

Outside my window…typical Arizona late -July weather. Hot.

I am thinking…that my boys' hair is looking pretty shaggy and I need to get out the trimmers.

I am thankful for… how affectionate my little boys are.

From the kitchen…some chocolate chip muffins I made that got a little burnt on the top. Whoops.

I am wearing…distressed jeans and a burnt orange and white top. One of my fabulous finds at Papaya at the outlet malls during vacation last week.

I am creating…a menu plan for next week

I am going…to Chick Fil A in a little bit - like I do with the boys every Thursday.

I am reading… Give Them Grace by Elyse Fitzpatrick & Jessica Thompson and Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins, the book of Ecclesiastes.

I am praying…for some close friends who just had a baby and for some close friends who are going through a big trial. And for grace to parent Owen, who, lately, has been more of a handful than usual :)

I am hearing…the boys playing in Owen's room. A mixture of laughs and shrieks.

Around the house…laundry, as usual. We had company over last night so the house is still in pretty good shape.

*Side note: As I'm writing this, no joke, Owen runs up and give me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. He does this about 10 times a day and i absolutely love it!

A few plans for the rest of the week…lunch at Chick fil A with Ruth, visiting a friend this afternoon, babysitting for Ruth tomorrow night so she and Jeff can get their first date since Joel was born!

On June 16th, my bf welcomed her second baby boy, Joel Andrew!

I had the privilege of being there when he was born, which is something I'll never forget! Such a miracle to welcome a sweet baby to the world - there's nothing like it!

Delivery was easy peasy for Ruth. Epidurals might be our favorite thing.

On June 15th, I turned 24!

Ryan took the day off to spend with me, which absolutely made my day. We didn't have any big plans, which was perfect because we really just wanted to quality family time. We started out the day with Krispy Kreme donuts and Starbucks. Really the perfect way to start any day.

We packed up the boys and headed to one of my very favorite places, my home away from home, the mall :) But first I had to get a picture with my 2 boys.

Clearly, not an easy feat.

I think in this picture I'm trying to ~~bribe~~ convince Owen to come sit with me for a picture.

Yay! A good one!

Did some shopping at Forever21 and Charlotte Russe and spent some birthday money. We took the boys on the carousel ride several times, which is prettty much Owen's favorite thing to do.

For lunch we ate at one of my favorite mexican place, On the Border. The boys were soo good!

Austin was cracking me up - he ate his first lemon and was making all these crazy faces.

After lunch we put the boys down for a nap Ryan stayed with them while I went to get coffee with one of my bestest friends, Ruth. I was glad to get to spend time with her because she's pregnant with baby #2 and was scheduled for an induction the next morning. So glad we got some quality time together! Before we knew it, 2 1/2 hours had flown by.

The boys were up from their naps when I got home so we all headed to Old Navy for some more birthday shopping. First I had to stop by the library because I had a book on reserve, the new Duggar family's book, A Love that Multiplies. The we decided to take the boys to Chick fil A for their dinner because we were still full from lunch. We picked up Cold Stone ice cream for dessert!

That evening, after we put the boys down, we cuddled on the couch with our ice cream and watched Lord of the Rings. We were re-watching the whole trilogy so I was excited to see the second one.

All in all, it was a fabulous day filled with family and friends, sweet texts, phone calls and messages, and quality time with my family. What more could a girl ask for?

Last week I took my cutie patooties to the splash pad. It was a hot day and I was hoping they would get some energy out by running around. Plus, I wanted to try out my new camera (thanks Ry!).

Well Owen was not having it. Here he is mid-"no".

Owen wanted to check out the ducks. He watched them for quite a while. Even made some friends while he was standing there! Their conversation went something like this:

On April 29th Austin turned 1! It was a really special day. Daddy took the day off of work and we had great family time!

Easter Eggs

This was Owen's first year dyeing Easter Eggs. He LOVED it, and has been really into eggs ever since. I had to tell myself to chill because he was making a mess and plopping eggs in one color after another with no rhyme or reason. I let myself decorate one for Austin *just* how I wanted it, and let Owen dye the others to his heart's content.

I love his face here. I was instructing him on how to get the egg out.

Potty Training

We are in Day 3 of Potty Training Owen. It's going surprisingly well. He had been showing interest in the whole thing for a few months now so I thought of that as my "window". So we didn't make any plans starting Wednesday.

Although I did some research, I didn't come across any method that I felt was right for us, so I'm just going with my gut. I let Owen run around naked and have him sit on the potty often. We're doing pull ups at night and for nap time. On Wednesday, Day 1 of potty training, he had as many peepees on the potty as he had accidents. Yesterday, he went in the potty 75% of the time, so we'll see what today holds. He has already gone once in the potty today, so so far so good. He still hasn't gone #2 in the potty so we'll have to work on that.

Originally I rewarded him with a sucker when he went. But now, since he's going 4 or 5 times a day, I think I may have to downsize and stick with 2 M&M's.

Owen's doing great with all of this. I can tell he gets annoyed with me asking if he needs to go potty 1,238 times a day. And, well, I get tired of sitting on the bathroom floor waiting for him to go (I started bringing magazines to read), but overall this potty training thing hasn't been too bad. Well, there was a time on Wednesday where Owen was sitting on the potty, Austin was crawling around getting into everything, and the dog was running off with Owen's underwear, but chaos is an everyday thing around here. ;)

Cousin Michael's 3rd birthday party was this weekend at Chuck E Cheese. Man o man, did Owen have fun! Well, we all did, but especially Owen. He loved running around and playing all the games. He found 2 games that he kept coming back to.

Weekend Wrap Up

We had a nice weekend. It started on Friday when the Jones' came up for a visit. They joined us for dinner at Ajo Al's. We don't take the boys out to dinner with us super often, but this time and last time they did really great so maybe we'll attempt it more often.

Here they are eating. Can you tell they get really into it? We ordered them a cheese quesadilla and it kept them quite busy.

After dinner we put they boys down and I headed to Target for some things we needed. I ended up meeting up with Ruth and we went to Starbucks afterwards for a little bit. So fun!

Saturday morning we ran errands and hung out at home. I had a hair appointment in the afternoon. Went back to my natural color, dark brown. Yawn. Oh well, at least it's low maintenance.

Sunday was, well, Sunday. Ryan left for church early to help set up. We were out of coffee so I decided to run by Starbucks with the boys on the way to church - I really needed some caffeine. Turns out that was a bad idea. Owen woke up in a bad/whiny mood and stayed that way all morning. Plus I had Austin in the car seat and it was packed in Starbucks. Owen kept trying to make a break for the door that leads to the patio, where we usually sit when we come as a family. I had to hold his hand firmly, he had a tantrum right at the cash register. We had a to wait several minutes for my caramel macchiato to be ready, so I bought him a pastry. He didn't like it and almost threw it on the floor before I intervened. It was just one of those mornings. By the time I got my coffee and got us all back to the car, I was practically sweating. And that was all before church!

This little one rarely gives me trouble. Such a stud. He's getting so big!

After church and naps we took a walk to the park as a family - Krosby included. It was unseasonably warm, but oh well. At least we got some exercise.

Meet Our Newest Addition

We adopted this sweet dog on Saturday. After months of talking about adding a dog to our family, we went to an adoption at Petsmart. His big brown doe eyes caught our attention. We spent some time with him and decided he would be a great fit for our family. He came to live with us that afternoon!

He's a lab/shar pai mix. He's 9 months and totally full grown. He has a very sweet disposition and is great with the kids! He's house and kennel trained, which is awesome. He hasn't had a single accident while in the house, even when he was in the kennel for 3 1/2 hours while I was at work. He rarely barks. Really, he's the perfect dog. He does get a bit excited and try to jump up on you sometimes but we're training him not to do that. The boys love him. Owen loves to play fetch with him, and I must admit, it's nice that Owen has someone to chase around outside. They both roll around in the grass and in general make a mess but hey, they're boys.

I'm not much of an animal person but I can't help but love this sweet guy.

His name, Krosby, was my idea - it's the name of one of the characters from one of my favorite shows, Parenthood. It fits him well.

Our boys' first ever picture with Santa. We braved the lines at the mall one Friday morning. Owen flipped out at the last minute and Austin, for once in his life, wasn't smiling! I had to sit with Owen because he didn't want within 5 feet of Santa.

The weekend after Thanksgiving, we put on some Christmas music and decorated our tree. This is the first year that Owen was old enough to participate, and while you probably can't tell by these pictures, he loved it!

Every day he looks at the tree and the ornaments and says "wow COOL niiiice!" and "prewwy yights" (pretty lights)

The day we decorated, though, he had just come down with a really bad cold and double ear infection, which we found out later. Doesn't he look absolutely miserable in these pictures?

Thanksgiving was a wonderful day. I made us some breakfast in the morning - cinnamon rolls, eggs and bacon.

Since I had some cooking to do, Ryan took Owen to the park. He looks so cute all bundled up, no?
AJ stayed home with me. I gave him some Cheerios and he worked on his pincer grasp. Look at that look of concentration on that cute little face!

A little after noon we headed to Chris & Tara's house for our Thanksgiving lunch. Everything looked so pretty and festive. Tara did a wonderful job hosting, as always. We were joined by Doug & JoAnn, as well as Chris' parents.

Owen's Birthday Part 2

We had Owen's second birthday party a few weeks after his actual birthday. He woke up to balloons, as per tradition!

And we gave him our presents that morning - a slide and a big orange ball.
He loved 'em!

Later that morning we had his party. I decided to keep it super simple this year. We had just moved, and life was hectic. Plus, for his first birthday last year I felt like I spent way too much time and energy on the aspects of the party that Owen didn't care about. So this year, simplicity was the motto! If Owen wouldn't care about it, I wasn't gonna mess with it.

We did a few simple decorations, this banner and a several balloons.

We kept the food very simple. Owen's favorite snacks are orange slices and goldfish crackers. So we put out two bowls of those and ordered Costco pizza.

Owen Turns 2!

Owen turned 2 on September 19th! Where has my baby gone? Now I have a talking, rambunctious, lovable little boy. But man, this age is fun!

Owen's birthday happened to be the day after we got back from vacation, so we decided to celebrate on his birthday party day a few weeks away. Our balloon and pancake tradition will just have to wait until then! We couldn't not do anything though, so we did take him to Petco to get his first fish!** We also did lunch at McDonalds, went to church, and had dinner at his cousins' house, so all in all it was a great day!

Here are some pics I snapped of Owen on his big day.

*Of course it wouldn't be a picture of Owen without some injury of some kind! The bruise on his forehead and nose is from a run-in with a wooden plank.

Owen is such a fun kid. He has a great imagination! He'll put just about anything on his head and call it a "hat". Orange slices, the laundry basket, my cell phone, anything and everything can be a hat!

He's pretty tall for his age. He's in the 30% for weight but the 90% for height! Tall and skinny. Love it.

He knows all of his letters. He can count to 11, and he can spell his name. Also, he loves to sing! ABC's, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Happy Birthday are his favorites.

He knows 2 verses: "Children, obey your parents" and "Do everything without complaining or arguing."

He loves playing with his buddies and being outside.

He's a pretty picky eater but some of his favorite foods are orange slices, cheese, crackers, goldfish, applesauce, yogurt, pizza, pancakes and Lucky Charms.

Ryan and I, pretty much every day, talk about how much fun Owen is and how much we love him.

**Sadly, Ish the Fish died a few days after we got him :( We plan to attempt Ish Round 2 in the near future. Actually, Owen didn't even notice that Ish disappeared! Owen is an "outta sight outta mind" type kid for sure!

Crib Tent and The Doctors

We got this crib tent tonight off of Craigslist tonight. Austin is outgrowing his bassinet and is about ready for the big boy crib and sharing a room with his brother, but I don't quite trust Owen around the crib. TO ensure he doesn't try to climb in with Brother or share a cracker or sippy cup or something, we got this crib tent. It zips open in the front for easy access to Baby. Quite an interesting contraption, I think. We'll try it out when Austin starts to sleep consistently through the night.

He was doing great through the night, but the combination of a cold and a growth spurt threw him off. Here's to hoping he picks up where he left off and I can get a full night of sleep again!

In other news, Owen's gonna be famous! I got an email from a lady who works for the show called The Doctors (which I occasionally watch!) asking if she could use a picture of Owen's (previously) chipped tooth on an upcoming show! I thought that was pretty cool. And random. She must've come across my blog after Google-ing "baby chipped tooth" or something. They will just show his mouth, but hey, I'm sure some agent will know just by looking at my cute boy's mouth that he's full of personality and destined for fame. Right?

Weekend

It's always hard to see the weekend go...

I was especially looking forward to this weekend after a long week spent in the house helping Owen recover from his dental work. He was pretty much back to his old self by Friday, thank goodness.

Friday even we headed to our friends' for a BBQ. Owen had fun playing with their little boys and we enjoyed adult conversation!

Saturday was a particularly exciting day for me. It was my sis in law Becky's due date! She's expecting her third baby and they don't know what they're having. With one son and daughter already, this one is a surprise. Since she's had both of her children on her due date, I was expecting "the call" all day... but it didn't come! It's Monday now and she's still pregnant. I'm keeping my phone nearby today! I just can't wait to meet my new little niece or nephew!

Saturday also included a pancake breakfast, some grocery shopping with my boys (I saved half of my bill with coupons and sales!) and a little shopping at Kohl's. I scored this cute cardigan on sale. Figured it would look cute with a brown top, jeans, and these flats I got at Famous Footwear for $5 after coupon.

Saturday night we had the McPhats over for pizza. After a Starbucks run we put the kids down and watched TV. So fun, so relaxing!

Sunday was the usual. We shopped at Target where I picked up this adorable Paul Frank swimsuit for Owen on clearance for $3 something, picked up some lunch, and put the boys down. I started watching the first season of Glee. Not sure what I think of the show yet! After church we came home and crashed.

This week will hopefully include a trip to Gilbert to meet the new baby, some time with my Dad and Lynn, some playdates, and a trip to the mall. It will be nice to be busy again!

I'm looking forward to next weekend already. On Saturday I'm getting my hair cut for the first time since Christmas Eve. I'm also getting it colored. Not sure how yet. Any suggestions?

Teeth

My poor little sweet Owen smacked his mouth last week and chipped his front two teeth pretty bad. I have no idea how it happened, I just woke up Tuesday morning to Owen and his chipped tooth'ed smile. Must've happened after bedtime.

Right away I got him into a pediatric dentist. The dentist said that the one tooth that seemed to get the brunt of the impact has an exposed "pulp" and would need a "pulpotomy" (essentially a root canal), and for the other tooth, we would need to watch and wait. The procedure was scheduled for the following Tuesday. Well, during the week I noticed his other front tooth started turning gray, indicating that it was damaged and would need a pulpotomy as well. Before his procedure this past Tuesday the doctor agreed and ended up doing a pulpotomy on both front teeth, as well as caps put on to protect the teeth. He did say both front teeth were feeling loose, and there was no guarantee that the teeth wouldn't abscess and need to be pulled. Ryan and I elected to watch, wait, and pray that there wouldn't need to be any further intervention. The good news is, this is just an issue with baby teeth, and his permanent teeth should come in just fine with no problems.

It's been hard the past few days as Owen has recovered. His lip swelled up really bad, probably due to biting it when his upper lip was numbed. We had to ditch the pacifier cold turkey so he wouldn't loosen the teeth further, which makes naps and bedtime a challenge since he slept with the paci. We're hoping that a few weeks with no paci will help firm up his front teeth and allow them to heal.

Today he seems like he's back to his old self. We've got a busy day, which is welcomed since we've been hanging out at home this week.

Pray for O, for Ryan and I to have wisdom, and for no more intervention for his teeth!

On Saturday we took the boys to the mall. Owen absolutely loves the carousel.

AJ just slept through the whole thing.
O loves to play in the kiddie play area too. We're working with him to be gentle with the other kids around. He often tries to get their attention in not so gentle ways.
He's fearless!

Fourth of July was fun. We hung out at home for a good part of the day, then headed to church. We planned to go to fireworks and do a picnic, but ended up picking up dinner and going home. Next year will be a better year to attempt the crowds and noise!

UPDATE: Made the fish tacos, they were fantastic! I did end up changing the recipe for the sauce, though. I went with a delicious, similar recipe that my mother-in-law, JoAnn, makes. To the 1/2 cup of sour cream, juiced lime, and 3 teaspoons of chipotle sauce, I added a clove of garlic and 2-3 tablespoons of mayonnaise. With this sauce, they were perfect! I will definitely add this to my meal rotation.

Got myself an alcoholic drink. If any of you know me, you know this is a rare thing. I absolutely hate the taste of any alcohol. Frankly, I think wine in particular is a mistake and liken it to drinking orange juice that has sat out for 46 days and then is something you're encouraged to "acquire a taste" for. Don't get me started. Anyway, that's just my opinion :) This drink was some type of peachy syrupy drink. Not too bad.
Afterward we all went to see Iron Man 2, which was HILARIOUS. I loved it.

On my actual birthday, which was a Tuesday, we were staying in Gilbert at Doug & JoAnn's house. I got to shop at Charlotte Russe, my absolute favorite store, with my absolute favorite mother in law :) Thanks for the spending money JoAnn! After Starbucks, some major shopping and a major meltdown courtesy of my eldest son, we picked up lunch at Olive Garden to-go. Then after putting Owen down for his nap he promptly climbed out of his pack n play for the first time. No nap for him!

Ryan watched the boys later on so I could visit my mom's grave. We shared a birthday so she was especially on my mind that day. So glad for the chance to just sit and remember her. It was soothing to my soul.

My fam met up later in the evening at Joe's Real BBQ. It was so cute to watch the cousins play :)

I was worn out by the end of the day and went to bed early! Oh well, it was a blast! Thanks to all my friend and family that made the day extra special for me!

Some of my favorite blogs to read are the ones that document the memories of every day life. So I thought I'd be extra intentional today about getting some pictures of my day with my boys!

We headed out to Old Navy to get Owen a new swimsuit. Funny story - Owen loves to see this dog mannequin every time we come here. Well today, I decided right after I took this picture to let him out of his stroller to get a closer look the the dog. To make a long story short, Owen ended up accidentally knocking the little girl mannequin which started a chain reaction and knocked down the entire display of mannequins!! I was mortified, but the sales lady just laughed. She told me she had two kids of her own and not to worry about it. Needless to say, I think I'll keep Owen in his stroller from now on!
After ON we walked to the nearby coffee shop with my friend Ruth and her son (and Owen's bf) Luke. I think Owen is making this face when I told his it's mommy's turn for a sip. Ha!

My Birth Story

After waiting 5 days past my due date (again), I was scheduled for an induction at 12:30am Thursday morning. Ry and I headed to the hospital and got checked in. A little after 1am I was hooked up to the fetal monitors and given my first dose of Cervidil. Since I had already been dilated and effaced at my last appointment (2 1/2 cm, 70%), I was hoping the Cervidil would do the trick and kick me into labor on my own.

After round 2 of Cervidil, and a little bit of progress with dilation, we started up the Pitocin at about 6am. I didn't feel strong contractions yet at all. About an hour later, at 7am, Ryan left to quickly get us a few things from a Walgreens nearby. While he was gone my doctor showed up early for her morning rounds and said she was going to break my water! I texted Ryan to get back here! Ha, later on I found out he ran back from Walgreens as fast as he could!

Breaking the water seemed to do the trick. Within an hour or so I could feel the contractions. They progressed from mild to moderate in about an hour. I was around 5 centimeters when the anesthesiologist was available to give me an epidural. Finally, at about 8:30, I was numb and comfortable. We started updating family and suggesting they start heading our direction (most of them live in Gilbert, which is about 45 minutes away).

Things progressed surprisingly fast after the epidural kicked in. About 9:30, an hour after my epidural, the nurse came to check my progress and she said I was about ready to push!! I was shocked, I couldn't feel a thing, my family was nowhere near the hospital, I just wasn't ready!! She left to go find the doctor. My sister in law and friend Ruth came in to visit while I was put on oxygen. The baby's heart rate was dipping low with contractions. We had to kick our visitors out pretty quick, because the doctor arrived and I was ready to deliver!

After a few (maybe 4?) pushes, our sweet Austin Caleb was born at 10:04am! He had a full head of hair and was screaming with a healthy set of lungs. He scored 9/9 on the Apgar, and he ate great right away! We were so happy but a little overwhelmed. The delivery happened so fast that I was still in shock! But we were so happy to have a healthy baby boy.

Three days past my due date :]

I had an appointment yesterday afternoon. I'm still about the same as last week, 2 1/2 cm and at least 50%. Really the next step in the process is actual labor.

The doctor has me schedule for an induction late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning. I'm supposed to call the maternity ward at the hospital 11:30pm Wednesday to make sure they have room available for me, then I'll go in and do a round or two of cervix-thinning medication, followed by the doctor breaking my water (if it hasn't broken on its own by then). Now an induction is not ideal for me, I'd love to go into active labor on my own, but I also don't want to go too far past my due date. This same situation happened with Owen, being overdue and scheduled for an induction, and I went into labor on my own the day before the induction with no intervention! I would love for that to be the case this time around as well. There's no guarantee though!

Pregnancy-wise, I feel pretty good. Actually better than I have the past few weeks. Because Austin has dropped, I feel like I can breathe better and I now seldom have heartburn. The hardest part is just waiting! Every evening after Ryan, Owen and I go on our walk I get consistent and strong Braxton Hicks, and I think to myself "this could be the real thing!" Then I go to bed expecting to be woken up by labor, but every morning I feel a bit disappointed.

I've found this song encouraging to me in this season. I find myself humming it often!

I'm grateful to know there's an end in sight that's only a few short days away. Actually, as Ryan reminds me, it's not an end, it's a new beginning! A beginning of a sweet new life that we are honored and blessed to be responsible for, love, and cultivate. We love Austin like crazy already!

Due Date

It's my due date today. Because I saw my due date come and go when I was pregnant with Owen, I'm not surprised to not be holding my baby today. Hopefully soon though!

So far we've had the perfect Saturday. Ryan got up with Owen this morning, we hung around the house and played, went to Starbucks as a family and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Then we went grocery shopping at Trader Joe's, came home, made lunch, and took a walk to the park where we had a picnic. It's been a wonderful day, the last Saturday together as a family of three. But man, I look forward to when Austin will be here with us! I can't wait to hold my sweet boy :)

I've had some mild Braxton Hicks, mostly when I'm active and walking. They're no guarantee that labor is around the corner, but you never know! I've purposed to be patient and enjoy the fun guessing game that is going into labor. I do feel pretty great for now. Just eager! Ryan and I are so excited! Any minute now!

39 Weeks 3 Days

I had a great doctors appointment today. I was pleased to find I am 2 cm and 50% effaced, with the baby low and ready to go. She said he could come any day now. She offered to induce on Friday, but I would love for my little guy to get here in his own time, so as of now I'm scheduled for an appointment Monday (if I make it that far) to discuss the next phase. But she doesn't think I'll make it that far! Man, I'm glad to hear that. Owen was 5 days overdue so subconsciously I'm expecting to see my due date come and go with no baby. Now I'm not so sure! I'm in no rush though. I feel ok, and while I have the common aches and pains that come along with the third trimester, it's really not so bad! Austin can come whenever he wants!

In the meantime, I'm giving extra extra snuggles to this little guy

So I've been putting off posting an update on my pregnancy because I don't have any recent pictures, but then I realized pictures aren't a necessity :) I will try to remember to post a recent one soon anyways.

Austin is due in 9 days!!! I can't believe it. It has been such a busy season in our lives that it hasn't really hit me yet. I'd like to get through this weekend because we have some fun things planned. Then, I'm ready to go anytime! Because I was 5 days overdue with Owen I'm not optimistic that I'll deliver too early. My due date is April 24th but my best guess is that I will have Austin at 2 days overdue this time around. Of course, I've been much more active with this pregnancy since I'm chasing around my 1 1/2 year old, so maybe that will speed up my progress!

My appointments have been going well. I go in every Tuesday. I've made a little progress, dilated to 1cm and a little bit effaced, and the baby is low and ready to go. Just a matter of time now.

Everything is pretty much ready and waiting for Baby. Changing table is stocked with newborn diapers, pajamas are neatly folded, diaper bag is packed, bassinet is ready and waiting next to my bed. We just need Austin!

I'm in no big rush this time around, while I'm excited to meet my second son, I'm soaking in the last days of it just being the three of us. Letting go of this season with just Owen has been emotional and a little bit difficult, but I know in the long run he will love have a little brother and a friend. Poor thing doesn't know what's about to hit him! We're keeping busy making memories and sharing special Mommy/Son time.

18 months

Owen turned a year and a half last Friday the 19th. For some reason I was particularly sentimental that day, so we did some fun things to commemerate!

We went to McDonald's for lunch

and Owen played like a big boy in the play area

then Papa Ross came over and Owen showed off some of his super cool antics like riding his toy car WITH Papa's shoes on. Owen is obsessed with shoes (90% of the time he goes for Daddy's shoes, not mine. Phew.)

He also loves being outdoors and running free, playing with his cousins, watching Baby Einstein and Elmo, his blocks, climbing on anything, eating snacks, dancing to loud music, reading his favorite books, taking a bath and being chased around. He is at such a fun age! He's also talking more. He says "ball" "shoes" "hi" "snack" "Papa" and of course Mommy and Daddy, among other words. He's about 28 lbs and pretty tall and lean. He's got quite a personality - he's sweet and affectionate but can also be pretty rowdy! He's all boy and we just love every second we have with him!

Had a fun V-Day with my man. I found this on the seat of the truck as we headed out for the night...

Then we grabbed a quick dinner at Rubios with O before we dropped him of at the babysitters

and Ryan and I headed off to the movies where we saw Valentine's Day (cute movie!) and then went for dessert at The Melting Pot. Wow, it was delicious.

What We've Been Up to

It's been a low key few weeks at our house. It's been rainy, so we've spent a lot of time just hanging out at home, withe the occasional errand or trip to the park. I've done a lot of baking and cooking though, maybe I will put up some recipes!

It was so fun to celebrate my good friend Sarah's baby at her shower last Saturday. She is 7 weeks ahead of me, so being at her shower was kind of a wake up call for me! Yikes, I'm having a baby soon too! I forget sometimes in the busyness of life and running around with a toddler.

We had so much fun with the Jones' on Sunday night. They came over after church to eat dinner and to watch the season premiere of 24 with us! Yeah, go Jack Bauer! They brought steaks to grill, and I made baked potatoes. Dinner was delicious!

On Monday Ryan had the day off for MLK day. We instituted a pajama day because it was raining and cold. So we just hung out around the house, watched movies, read books, and had some good family time!

On a pregnancy note, every thing is going very well. Totally uneventful. I had my glucose test yesterday, I've been keeping up with my regular appointments, but it's just not setting in that we're having another one! I guess I know we're having another baby, but it just seems so far off in the distant future. When I was pregnant with Owen, I spent all my time working on my baby registry, shopping for clothes, scouring Craigslist for deals, reading new mom blogs.. It sure is different already having one to keep up with! I bet that when the third trimester hits in a few weeks it will all start to set in, and I'll probably go into panic mode! Ha! Hopefully the 3rd trimester will come with that nesting urge too, which would be great. I could use the energy!

We had a different New Years this year. For the past 4 years or so, I've hosted a party at my house, but this year it wasn't gonna happen. So we went to a party thrown by my bestie, Ruth! It was a fun night, we hung out and ate and played games.
